Okay, so, I got this idea the other day, you know, I’ve always been into watches, not the super expensive ones, just the cool-looking ones. And I thought, why not try to make one myself? Not just any watch, though. I wanted to try and remake the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100G-010. Yeah, I know, it’s a mouthful, and it’s one of those fancy, really expensive watches that you see in, like, their specialty stores.
So, first, I started looking up everything I could find about this watch. I mean, I spent days just staring at pictures and reading descriptions of it. It’s a pretty unique watch, it’s not round, it’s got this rectangular shape, kind of like a cushion, I guess? They call it a “form” watch, which sounds fancy. It’s made for the ladies, and it’s got diamonds all around it, which, obviously, I wasn’t gonna be able to do, but I wanted to capture the overall look.
Then I started thinking about how to actually make it. I decided to get a cheap watch with a similar shape. Finding one wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, there are tons of watches out there with that rectangular look. I got one that had a white gold-ish color, just like the real Gondolo. The real one is made of white gold, of course, and has a pearl white gold strap, but mine was just, you know, regular metal.
- Sourcing the Watch: Found a basic rectangular watch online, similar in shape and color to the Gondolo.
- Dismantling: Carefully took apart the watch, which was kind of scary, not gonna lie, didn’t want to break anything.
- Designing: Sketched out how I wanted the watch face to look, trying to match the Gondolo’s style as best as I could.
The next part was tricky. I wanted the watch face to look like the real deal, so I did a bunch of sketches, trying to get the numbers and the hands just right. It took a few tries, but eventually, I had a design I was happy with. I ended up printing it out on some special paper, the kind that’s used for, like, temporary tattoos, you know? I cut it out really carefully and stuck it onto the watch face. It actually looked pretty good!
Putting the watch back together was a bit of a challenge, but I managed it. And when it was all done, I gotta say, I was pretty impressed with myself. It didn’t look exactly like the Patek Philippe Gondolo, of course, but it had that same vibe, that same kind of classy, elegant look. And the best part? It only cost me a fraction of what the real one would cost.

So, yeah, that’s how I spent my weekend. Remaking a super expensive watch. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot about watches in the process. Would I do it again? Maybe. It’s definitely not something you can just do in an afternoon, but it’s a cool way to get a taste of that luxury watch life without, you know, spending a fortune. If you’re into watches, and you’re looking for a fun little project, I’d say give it a try. Just be prepared to spend some time on it, and don’t expect to fool anyone into thinking it’s the real deal!
