Okay, so, let me tell you about this project I just finished. It was a doozy, let me tell you! I wanted to recreate this super fancy watch, the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100R-010, the one that’s only sold in special stores. You know, the kind of watch that makes you feel like a million bucks even if you only have a dollar in your pocket. It’s so beautiful, I really fall in love with it at the first time I saw it, so I decided to remake one.

First off, I spent hours just staring at pictures of this thing. I wanted to get the design as perfect as possible. I started by drawing a bunch of sketches, trying to figure out the shape, the little details, the exact way the hands move. It wasn’t easy, believe me. My first few attempts looked like something a kid would draw. But I kept at it.

  • Sketched the basic shape of the case. It’s kind of a rectangle but with these rounded edges.
  • Figured out the placement of those fancy diamonds. They’re not just randomly thrown on there, you know? There’s a pattern.
  • Drew the little details on the dial, like those tiny numbers and the fancy swirly things.

Then came the hard part, the technical things. I had to decide what materials to use. I couldn’t exactly use real gold and diamonds, ha! I’m not made of money. So, I went with some more affordable stuff that still looked pretty good. I used some stainless steel, and let me tell you, that was a pain in the butt. But it gives the watch a nice, solid feel.

Cut the steel to match my sketches, polished the hell out of it to make it shine. Then, I started working on the insides. I grabbed a cheap watch movement I had lying around, and I took it apart. I only needed the basic parts to make it work. Figured out how to attach it to the case I made. It was tricky, and I messed up a few times, but I finally got it to fit.

For the face, I printed out a design I made on my computer. I tried to make it look like the real thing. I used some special paper that’s kind of glossy. I carefully cut it out and glued it to the inside of the watch. Then, I added the hands. I used some really thin metal and painted them the right colors.

Finally, I put the whole thing together. It took a lot of patience, and I had to redo a few things, but in the end, I think it turned out pretty great! It’s not an exact replica, of course, but it looks pretty close to the real deal. It’s now on my hand and my friends are all asking where I bought it.

Learnings

  • Patience is key! This kind of project takes time and effort.
  • Don’t be afraid to mess up. I made a lot of mistakes along the way, but I learned from them.
  • It’s okay to use cheaper materials. You don’t need to spend a fortune to make something cool.

I’m pretty proud of how it turned out, and I wanted to share it with you all. Maybe it’ll inspire you to try making something yourself! It’s a great feeling to create something with your own two hands. Trust me!
