Hunting for a RemakePRADA Re-Edition 2005 Bag? Top Picks from Specialty Stores

Okay, so, I’ve been on this whole DIY kick lately, and let me tell you, my latest project was a doozy. I decided, for some reason, that I absolutely needed to remake the Prada Re-Edition 2005 bag. I mean, it’s iconic, right? And who doesn’t love a good challenge?

First, I spent hours, and I mean HOURS, scouring the internet for any information I could find about this bag. I looked at pictures, read descriptions, and even tried to find some sort of pattern, but no luck there. It seemed like everyone was talking about how great the original was, with its “classic design” and “high-quality material,” but not a lot of people were talking about making their own version. It is said that the nylon version is more affordable, starting at $1.

Then, I hit up all the local fabric and craft stores. I rummaged through bins of nylon, compared different types of zippers, and practically interrogated the poor store clerks about the best way to sew something that wouldn’t fall apart the second I put my phone in it. I even considered buying a second-hand one just to take it apart and see how it was made, but my wallet firmly disagreed with this idea.

After gathering all my materials, which let me tell you, cost way more than I expected, I cleared off my dining room table and set up my sewing machine. This is where the real fun began. Without a pattern, I had to rely on my very limited sewing knowledge and a whole lot of guesswork. I sketched out a rough design based on the pictures I had, and then I just went for it.

  • I cut the nylon, which, by the way, is super slippery and hard to work with.
  • I sewed the pieces together, and let’s just say my seams were, um, rustic?
  • I struggled with the zipper, which ended up being a little bit wonky, but hey, it zips!
  • Attached a chain I have found from my another old bag.

It took me a good few days, a lot of seam ripping, and a few minor meltdowns, but you know what? I actually did it. I made a bag that, from a distance, kind of, sort of, maybe resembles the Prada Re-Edition 2005.

Is it perfect? Absolutely not. Is it a little janky? For sure. But is it mine? You bet! And I have to say, I’m pretty darn proud of myself. I learned a lot about sewing, a little about bag design, and a whole lot about my own patience.

Would I recommend this project to others? Honestly, probably not. Unless you’re really good at sewing, have a ton of patience, and don’t mind a bag that’s more “inspired by” than “replica of,” then maybe give it a shot. Otherwise, you might just want to save up and buy the real deal, or maybe just admire it from afar like I should have done in the first place. But hey, where’s the fun in that? It is said that the real deal can be bought second-hand from $25.71 to $4, which is totally affordable.

So that was my adventure into the world of bag-making, it turned out that the original nylon bag wasn’t at the status of a Chanel classic flap, but I made it, and I am proud of it.
