Okay, so I’ve been eyeing a Patek Philippe for a while now, specifically the Calatrava. You know, that classic, elegant design. It’s just so timeless. I finally decided to go for it and get myself the 5088/100P-001. Yeah, that one, the black dial with the engravings. It’s a bit eccentric, but that’s what drew me to it.
First things first, I started looking around for the price of the Calatrava 5088/100P-001. Seemed like it was going for around $105,820 at retail, but on the secondary market, I found some a bit cheaper, like around $83,534. But those secondary market dealers, man, they tack on a bit extra, so I figured I’d be paying about 6% more if I went that route.
I did some reading up on the Calatrava line. Turns out, it’s a pretty big deal in the watch world. Lots of history and different models. I even dug into some of the older, less-known vintage Calatravas. There are some real hidden gems out there, but I was set on the 5088.
I decided to check out a Patek boutique just to see the watch in person, try it on. While I was there, I also tried a 5227J, the yellow gold one. It was nice but not quite what I was looking for.
