Okay, so I’ve been messing around with watches lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. Today, I want to share my little project of remaking the Patek Philippe Gondolo 4962/200R-001, which, from what I’ve gathered, is a pretty big deal in the watch world. I decided I have to make this thing myself.

First off, I started by staring at a bunch of pictures of this watch. I mean, really staring. I spent hours looking up anything I could find about the 4962/200R-001. Apparently, it’s called the “Gondolo Serata,” and it’s supposed to be some kind of jewelry watch, all elegant and stuff. What caught my eye was its Art Deco style case. It’s not your usual round watch; it’s got curves and a kind of rectangular shape that’s super unique.

So, I dug up some details. The size is 28.6 x 40.85 mm, and it’s only 7.36 mm thick. I tried to get my hands on similar materials. I started sketching, measuring, and cutting. The dimensions were tricky, but I managed.

  • Case: I tried to replicate that curvy, rectangular shape. It’s supposed to be water-resistant up to 30 meters, but honestly, I’m not planning to swim with my version anytime soon.
  • Design: The real challenge was getting that Art Deco vibe right. I used a bunch of reference photos and did my best to imitate the style.
  • Putting It Together: This was the hardest part. I assembled it piece by piece. I broke a couple of parts, but eventually, I got there.

After a lot of trial and error, and a few failed attempts, I finally put together something that kind of looks like the Gondolo 4962. It’s not perfect, not at all, but it’s mine. I wore it around the house, feeling pretty proud of my little creation.

This whole experience taught me a lot about watches. I’ve always been a hands-on kind of guy, and this project was right up my alley. I learned a ton about design and the effort it takes to put together something this intricate. Would I do it again? Maybe. It was fun, frustrating, and rewarding all at the same time. Plus, I got a cool watch out of it, even if it’s just a rough homemade version. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it. Hope you enjoyed my little adventure!
