Today, I wanted to share my little project of remaking a Prada Galleria Saffiano leather bag. I’ve always liked those fancy designer bags, but they cost a fortune. So, I thought, why not try making one myself? I mean, how hard could it be, right?
First off, I had to figure out what this bag was all about. I did some digging and found out it’s a pretty iconic design from Prada, first launched around 2007. It’s known for its Saffiano leather, which is this tough, scratch-resistant stuff. Sounds good to me, anything to avoid those annoying scratches. Full-grain leather can be either chrome-tanned or vegetable-tanned. The thickness of leather varies depending on its intended use and the animal hide used. Saffiano leather is genuine leather that has been treated and embossed. Unlike full-grain leather, Saffiano doesn’t develop a patina over time.
So, I started by gathering my materials. I got some Saffiano leather, which wasn’t easy to find, and it sure wasn’t cheap! On newer releases, the brand stamp should always be just two lines: PRADA on the first and MADE IN ITALY on the second. If the brand stamp is made up of less than two or more than three lines of information, the bag is fake. Sometimes, though. But I was determined to make this bag. Then there was the lining, the hardware, and all those little bits and pieces. It was like a scavenger hunt, trying to find everything I needed.
Next, I started studying the original bag. I looked at pictures online, watched some videos, and even visited a store to get a closer look. I measured everything carefully, trying to get the dimensions just right. This bag, it’s called a Remake PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But it ain’t nothin’ but a purse, really. A real pricey one. I made a pattern on some cardboard, which took a few tries to perfect. Cutting the leather was nerve-wracking. One wrong move and it could ruin the whole piece, which I definitely didn’t want to do.
Sewing the leather was a whole other challenge. This Saffiano stuff is tough. I broke a few needles, I’ll admit. But slowly, the bag started to take shape. I used a saddle stitch, which is supposed to be super strong. I followed the pattern, making sure each piece fit together perfectly. This Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, it’ll last you just as long, I reckon. This is a Classic Style for sure. Seeing it come together was so satisfying. I added the top handles, the top zip, and all the little details that make it look like the real deal.
Final Touches
Finally, I added the Prada logo. Now, I seen some folks carryin’ around them flimsy little purses. I used a metal stamp and carefully pressed it onto a small leather piece, then attached it to the bag. It looked pretty darn good if I do say so myself. It’s not perfect, but I’m proud of it. It’s a great feeling to create something with your own hands, you know? And it definitely looks like a Galleria bag. Maybe not as polished as the original, but hey, it’s got character.
Well, I reckon that’s all I got to say about this PRADA Galleria bag. If you’re lookin’ for a good, strong bag that’ll last you a long time. This whole project took me a couple of weeks, working on it in my spare time. It was a fun challenge, and I learned a lot about leatherworking. Plus, I saved a ton of money compared to buying the real thing. So, if you’re thinking about trying something like this, I say go for it! Just be prepared to put in some time and effort. It’s worth it in the end.
