Alright, so I wanted to mess around with this watch I’d been eyeing – a copy of the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. Sounds fancy, right? I was really into the idea of an open case back.

First, I started digging around to see what’s what with these watches. Turns out, the Speedmaster Professional usually holds its value pretty well, especially the older models and limited editions. I saw a bunch of people saying these can actually go up in price over time because they’re rare and collectors love them.

Then, I got my hands on the copy I wanted. Let me tell you, one of the things I was most excited about was the open case back. This here watch, it’s got a see-through back, fancy, I dove right in to see what makes this thing tick. I had to do some serious reading, looking at pictures of real Speedys and comparing them to the copy. They say you gotta pay attention to the fonts and logo on the dial, they should be sharp and clear. And the markings on the dial, too.

  • Checked out the laser etching on the back of the case. From what I read, that’s supposed to be a way to tell if it’s a fake or not.
  • Compared the fonts and logo on the dial with pictures of real ones.
  • Looked at lots of pictures of real Speedys to see how they’re supposed to look.

I also learned that the calibre 1863 in some of these watches uses higher-grade parts and has a fancy rhodium-plated finish. Plus, it comes with that open case-back so you can admire the movement. I found out that there’s some debate about whether Omega should offer the hesalite crystal with an exhibition case back. Some folks say they did, others say they don’t.

After all that, I decided to share my little adventure with you guys. It was a fun deep dive into the world of watches, and playing around with a copy of the Speedmaster Professional with an open case back was a blast. I mean the open case back, It’s got this cool transparent case back, which is not something you see on every Moonwatch. From what I gathered. I’m no expert, but it’s cool to see the guts of the watch. It ain’t the real deal, but it gave me a good idea of what the hype is all about.

Hope you enjoyed my little story! It’s fascinating to see how much detail goes into these things, even the copies.
