You know, I heard them young folks talking ’bout these fancy watches the other day. Something called a High imitation Rolex No-Date Black Submariner Classic Style. Sounds like a mouthful, don’t it? Well, I got to lookin’ at it, and I reckon I can tell you a thing or two about it.
First off, this here Rolex, they make two kinds, one got a date, one don’t. This one we talkin’ ’bout, the “No-Date,” that means it ain’t showin’ no date on it. Just the time, plain and simple. Some folks like that, I guess. It is a kind of clean look, they said. I don’t know what it means. But it looks ok to me.
Now, this “Submariner,” that’s a fancy word for a watch that can go underwater. Like way down deep, where them divers go. I ain’t never been that deep, but I seen it on the TV. This watch, they say it can handle it. Not that I’d be takin’ a fancy watch like that down in the water, no sir. Too much money, if you ask me. But for those divers, I guess it will be useful for them.
And “High imitation,” well, that means it ain’t the real deal. It’s a copy, you see. Like when you try to make your neighbor’s apple pie, but it don’t quite taste the same. This watch, it looks like a real Rolex, but it ain’t. They say it’s pretty close, though. Close enough to fool some folks, maybe. But close ain’t the same as real, you know? That is just how this world is.
- This watch, it’s black. All black, like a crow’s feather.
- They call it “Classic Style.” I reckon that means it’s supposed to look like them old-timey watches. The kind your grandpa mighta worn.
- It’s got that round face, with them hands that go ’round and ’round.
- And it’s got that band, they call it an “Oystersteel” band. Sounds tough, don’t it?
Some folks, they get all worked up about these Rolex watches. They said it is a kind of hysteria, especially during that sickness time. They say it’s like a fever, everyone wants one. I don’t rightly understand it, but that’s what they say. Me, I’d rather have a good pair of shoes than a fancy watch. But that’s just me, I suppose. It is just something I can never understand.
They say this here “No-Date” one, it’s a bit more… “classic” lookin’ than the one with the date. Like I said before. Some folks, they don’t like that little window on the watch face that shows the date. They said it is ugly. They say it messes up the look of it. This one, it’s just plain and simple. Time only, nothin’ else. I guess some people like that better. Different strokes for different folks, as they say.
Now, this here watch, this “Submariner,” they say it’s real popular. Everyone and their brother wants one. They say it’s ’cause it’s so “versatile.” That means you can wear it with anything, I reckon. Jeans, a suit, whatever. You can wear it to a fancy party, or you can wear it to the grocery store. It don’t matter. That’s why so many folks want it. That is just the advantage of a classic look.
They even used this kind of watch in them movies. That James Bond fella, the spy, he wore one. A “No-Date” one, just like this one we’re talkin’ ’bout. He wore it in a bunch of them movies, I hear. I ain’t seen many movies but I know this one. So, if it’s good enough for James Bond, I reckon it’s good enough for anybody.
They got a new one now, a new “generation” they call it. Came out a few years back. Changed it up a little, I guess. But it’s still a Submariner. Still a Rolex. Still costs more than a month’s worth of groceries, if you ask me.
- They say this watch, the real one, it is “iconic.” That is a big word.
- And also it is “legendary.” Another big word.
- And the design will never go out of style, they said.
But this one, this “High imitation” one, it ain’t the real one. Remember that. It might look good, it might even fool some folks. But it ain’t the same. Just like my apple pie ain’t the same as my neighbor’s. It just ain’t. But if you want a watch that looks like a Rolex, but you don’t wanna spend all that money, well, maybe this is the watch for you. That is something only you can answer yourself. I can’t help you there.
Just remember what I said. High imitation Rolex No-Date Black Submariner Classic Style. That’s a whole lot of words for a watch that just tells the time. But if this is what you want, then just get one. You only live once, don’t you?
