This here Omega Speedmaster Super Racing, they say it’s new-fangled. Came out just last year, in 2023, so I hear. Fancy name, ain’t it? Super Racing! Sounds like somethin’ outta them picture shows. But you know, it’s just a watch. A darn expensive one, I betcha.
They say it’s got somethin’ called a “Spirate System.” Sounds like a pirate, don’t it? Argh! But no, it ain’t got nothin’ to do with pirates, I reckon. They put it in this here watch at the end of January. Must be important, I guess, if they’re makin’ such a fuss. Heard it makes the watch run real good. Keeps the time just right. That’s what they keep saying, anyway.
Now, I ain’t never had a watch like this. My old ticker, it just tells the time. Don’t need no fancy doohickeys. But this one, this Omega Speedmaster Super Racing, they say it’s a “Master Chronometer.” What is this? Sounds like some space stuff, I’m telling you. Like them astronauts wear. Big deal, I say. My old watch works just fine, thank you very much.
But I guess some folks like these fancy things. They like to show off, you know. Wearin’ a watch that costs more than my whole house probably. But you know what I think about all that money thing? Waste of money. Could feed a whole family for a year with what they spend on that watch.

This Omega, it’s a big name, I hear. Like them fancy cars. But a watch is a watch, I always say. Tells the time, that’s all that matters. I don’t need no Speedmaster to tell me when to feed the chickens. I got a rooster for that! And he sure does his job. Wakes me up before the sun even thinks about peekin’ over the horizon.
They say this Super Racing watch is an “advancement.” Means it’s better than the old ones, I suppose. But what was wrong with the old ones? They tell time too, don’t they? Seems like they just keep makin’ new things to sell to folks who got too much money. They get bored with the old stuff, I reckon.
Now, this watch, it’s part of the Speedmaster collection, they call it. Like they’re collectin’ somethin’ special. Like them baseball cards my grandson used to have. He’d trade ’em with his friends. Maybe folks trade these watches, too. Who knows?
I seen pictures of this Omega Speedmaster Super Racing. It’s got all them little dials and buttons. What are they for? I wouldn’t know what to do with all that. Just give me a simple watch with two hands. That’s all I need. This watch has too many things. I only need to know the time, not fly to the moon!

I remember my first watch. Got it when I was just a little girl. Wasn’t nothin’ fancy. Just a plain old watch. But I loved it. Kept it for years. This Omega Speedmaster Super Racing, it probably wouldn’t last a week on my wrist. I’m always working in the garden or doing things around the house. I’d probably scratch it up or break it. Then I have to fix it. I don’t have time to fix these things. I have too many things to do.
But I guess some folks, they like to have nice things. And that’s alright. Just not for me. I’m happy with my simple life. Don’t need no fancy watch to tell me that. This new Omega thing, it’s just not for me. I’d rather spend my money on somethin’ useful. Like a new pair of boots. Or some seeds for my garden. Or maybe a new rooster. Mine’s gettin’ old.
This Spirate System, whatever that is. They keep sayin’ that name. I guess it’s the big thing about this watch. Must make it tick real good. Like I said before, I don’t know how it works. I just know that people are talking about it. Makes the watch special. They want you to buy it. It’s new, so it must be good. But who needs a new watch? I already have my old one.
All these things, all these words. Omega Speedmaster Super Racing. Spirate System. Master Chronometer. Makes my head spin. I think I’ll just go sit on my porch and watch the sunset. That’s better than any old watch, I tell ya.
